WELCOME TO THE Restructuring and Insolvency Specialists Association of Bermuda
The Restructuring and Insolvency Specialists Association of Bermuda, commonly known as RISA Bermuda, was established in June 2015 to foster the support and development of the restructuring and insolvency industry in Bermuda.
RISA Bermuda seeks to undertake any activity which may be conducive or incidental to the support and development of the insolvency and restructuring industry of Bermuda.
This includes:
- Promoting, supporting, advancing, and protecting the interests of those engaged in the insolvency and restructuring industry in Bermuda, including businesses that provide facilities or services related to insolvency and restructuring, as well as any individuals connected to this field.
- Advocating for, supporting, opposing, or proposing changes to laws and regulations in Bermuda and beyond, including the rules and policies of both national and international organizations that align with the goals of RISA.
- Encouraging dialogue, discussions, and exchanges of perspectives among professionals in the insolvency and restructuring industry, those engaged in related businesses, regulators, and advisors, as well as media representatives covering these topics.
- Offering advice, assistance, information, and related services to RISA members regarding insolvency and restructuring, while promoting the principles of transparency, best practices, and due diligence within the industry.
- Encouraging membership in recognized international insolvency bodies, such as INSOL International, and promoting Bermuda's interests through these organizations.

Mathew Clingerman is a Managing Director in Kroll’s Restructuring practice and Head of the firm’s Hamilton, Bermuda office. With more than 20 years of offshore advisory experience across Bermuda and the Caribbean. Mathew specializes in cross‑border insolvency, restructuring, investigations, litigation support and financial analysis. He is widely recognized for his practical approaches to distressed and complex situations, frequently working alongside top‑tier legal advisors to drive value‑maximizing outcomes for stakeholders.
Mathew regularly serves in private and court‑appointed roles as a liquidator and receiver of distressed corporate entities, including offshore investment funds, insurance companies, trust related structures, and regulated financial institutions. Many of his appointments involve multinational operations requiring coordination of proceedings across global territories including the U.S., U.K., Hong Kong, PRC, Sweden, Switzerland, Brazil, Uruguay, Russia, Malta, Cyprus, and Isreal. He is highly experienced in the use of cross‑border recognition regimes and in designing solutions that resolve disputes and competing stakeholder interests. His cases have included leading restructurings, pursuing asset recoveries, and overseeing the wind‑down or sale of businesses.
Among other qualifications, he is a Fellow of INSOL International, a Chartered Financial Analyst, and Certified Fraud Examiner.
Nathan Bickley-May is Director in Financial Advisory with Teneo in Bermuda. Nathan has over 15 years of experience and his career has predominately focused on advising companies on restructuring and insolvency, both domestic and cross-border, contentious and non-contentious.
Prior to joining Teneo, Nathan was at KPMG Bermuda and joined Teneo as part of its acquisition of KPMG’s restructuring business in Bermuda. Prior to KPMG, he spent over 10 years at an award-winning UK restructuring and advisory practice.
Nathan has significant experience across a multitude of sectors of business of varying sizes and complexities. Having advised businesses ranging from owner/managed to listed corporates, Nathan strives to provide a hands-on, solution focused approach to his clients and stakeholders at all times. Nathan also has experience conducting investigations for the Bermuda Monetary Authority under the Insurance Act and Digital Asset Business Act.
Nathan is a qualified UK insolvency practitioner, having passed his Joint Insolvency Examination Board (JIEB) exams (Corporate and Personal) at his first sitting in 2019.
Joseph is the Managing Director of Alvarez & Marsal and Head of the firm’s Bermuda office. He has more than 20 years of restructuring and insolvency experience across Bermuda and the UK, as well as assignments in the Caribbean, Africa, and the Middle East.
Joseph has been appointed by the Supreme Court of Bermuda as liquidator on numerous fund and reinsurance company liquidations, as well as for hedge funds and local operating companies, many with assets located outside the jurisdiction. He has also been appointed as liquidator on numerous voluntary liquidations of Bermuda companies, served as liquidator of a Hong Kong–incorporated entity, and supported local banks in recovery and workout engagements.
In addition, Joseph has led independent business reviews for debtor clients of financial institutions and conducted forensic investigations into the improper use of funds for regulators and both local and international businesses.
Joseph is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW FCA) and a Bermuda Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He holds a degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Durham and a postgraduate degree from the University of Cambridge.
Jennifer Haworth is counsel in the dispute resolution and litigation team with Carey Olsen Bermuda Limited.
With nearly 20 years' experience in a wide range of commercial and civil litigation, Jennifer regularly appears in the Bermuda Supreme Court and Court of Appeal and has experience in both mediation and arbitration. Her practice spans a broad range of matters, including commercial litigation, shareholder appraisal actions, enforcement and debt recovery, insolvency and restructuring and regulatory matters. Jennifer's insolvency and restructuring experience includes advising on cross-border insolvencies, receiverships, as well as schemes of arrangement. She regularly advises liquidators, receivers and unsecured creditors in relation to both contentious and non-contentious insolvency issues. She also has extensive enforcement and debt recovery experience acting for banks and other corporates as well as providing advice regarding Bermuda's enforcement processes in different contexts, including in large commercial transactions.
In addition to being a committee member of RISA, Jennifer is a member of INSOL and the Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Network (WIRN) Bermuda. She is ranked with Chambers Global and Legal500.
Rhys Williams is a Director in the Litigation department in the Bermuda office of Conyers Dill & Pearman. Rhys qualified and practiced as a barrister in London before moving to Bermuda in 2015.
Rhys’ specialises in insolvency and restructuring, both domestic and cross-border, contentious and non-contentious. Rhys has been involved in the major restructurings including Noble, Weatherford, Digicel, Markel CATCo, Seadrill and Ocean Wilsons. Rhys has also appeared in many of the major winding up cases including Northstar, Omnia, PB Life & Annuity Co, PDV Insurance Co, Titan Petrochemicals, Skyfame and Bittrex. Rhys also advises on appraisal actions arising out of restructurings, advising Enstar and CMB.TECH following their recent mergers. Rhys acts for companies, creditors, contributories and insolvency practitioners.
Rhys is a Fellow of INSOL and regularly gives talks on insolvency and restructuring.
Mike is a Partner in the EY Parthenon team covering Bermuda, Bahamas, Cayman and BVI and has over 20 years experience in restructuring, transaction and insolvency matters.
Mike has been on island for thirteen years working on some of the largest and most complex insolvency processes in the jurisdiction.
His matters include large cross border cases involving US Chapter 11 appointments and Chapter 15 recognition orders, Hong Kong and PRC focused matters, as well as investigations of corporate frauds leading to insolvency.
Mike has led insolvency appointments, advisory matters and financial restructurings across a broad range of sectors including insurance, oil and gas, crypto, technology, investment funds and hospitality, including some economically significant local matters.
Mike is regularly appointed as an inspector by the Bermuda Monetary Authority in situations where there is a requirement to analyse the activity of registrants. Mike has been appointed as an inspector to both life and general insurance business registrants, and has taken liquidation appointments over digital business registrants. Mike was also appointed by the Central Bank of the Bahamas as the joint liquidator of a bank with significant international assets.
Mike is a JIEB qualified member of the Insolvency Practitioner’s Association in the UK, as well as a member of the R3 association of insolvency and restructuring professionals and the INSOL international insolvency practitioners’ association.
Lilla joined Collas Crill in November 2025. She specialises in commercial litigation, contentious trusts, insolvency and restructuring.
Lilla is a very well-regarded, well-connected Bermudian litigator. She has extensive experience in the Bermuda legal market drawn from having represented clients through the years in complex, often high-profile cases, involving cross-border disputes, arbitration, foreign judgments, contentious trust disputes, and corporate insolvencies and restructurings.
Lilla ran her own law firm, Zuill & Co, and previously worked for a number of years at another offshore law firm where she gained significant experience in the Hong Kong market before becoming their Bermuda Managing Partner.
Prior to her extensive career in law, Lilla spent more than a decade as a financial journalist in Manhattan and Bermuda, as a markets, IPO and then insurance and reinsurance correspondent.

In September 2025, the inaugural Ed Willmott Memorial RISA Cup Golf Tournament was hosted, bringing together professionals for a day of friendly competition and networking.
Rather appropriately in its inaugural year of reflection, Deloitte took the honors on the day.
In June 2025, RISA Bermuda partnered with South Square for its inaugural conference, which also featured a RISA boat cruise the afternoon before the event.
The conference attracted over 120 delegates, heard from several panels, including sitting commercial court judges, who provided invaluable insights, concluding in the evening with drinks and canapes.
Following its success, South Square has committed to making the conference an annual event
This gathering brought together Bermuda's restructuring and insolvency community, for an insightful event featuring panel discussion from all four sitting commercial court judges, who provided invaluable insights.

Membership of the Association shall be open to any individual who is a resident in Bermuda and is directly or indirectly engaged in the business of insolvency and restructuring in Bermuda. Members are those individuals who can demonstrate the following criteria:
1) A current member of a recognized professional insolvency body, legal, or accounting organization that has its own disciplinary procedures and rules, along with established standards of professional conduct and/or a code of ethics; or
2) That their work requires them to routinely and actively participate in matters related to restructuring and insolvency in Bermuda.
The initial membership application form needs to be completed and submitted to an Officer or Committee Member. Acceptance of applications for membership shall be at the discretion of the Committee.
Fees are $200 per calendar year for both new and existing members of RISA Bermuda.
Membership fees include membership to INSOL International (further details of the benefits of INSOL International membership are provided in the downloads section below).
